Point Break Trailer, action, thriller

The less said about this and the more watched is better. Let's hope it doesn't have the awesome trailer but crappy movie tag, as do majority of modern day movies.

“Point Break” is inspired by the classic 1991 hit starring Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves. It is scheduled for release in 3D and 2D in select theaters on December 25, 2015,

Kagwe Mungai - Creeper (Official Music Video)

Biggest Fan music video by Kagwe Mungai is out!

Is he a Kenyan indie, Afro-pop, Afro-house or RnB artist? All we know is that Kagwe Mungai is definitely causing a buzz with his style which to say the least is contemporary Kenyan music.     The single Biggest Fan has some laid back  beat and the lyrics & video resonate well with the numerous guys and girls who have crushes but  haven't made the move.

This song would be a great way to do so! Although it borders on the creepy & stalker-ish nature of one-sided romance, as Kagwe is seen 'hanging out and about his love interests apartment without her knowledge. You might want to place a disclaimer on that part if you do decide to use it.

Without  further ado, here is the video, Biggest Fan - Kagwe Mungai

Dela, Daddy Owen, Octopizzo & Size 8 collabo?

Yes! they have done it, and no it's not a perceived secular song for all of you who are already condemning Size 8 and Daddy Owen.

The song is aimed at creating awareness about malaria in a campaign by a non-governmental organisation known as Malaria No-More Kenya which is determined to end malaria deaths.

The song's title, Malaria ni Hatari, which ii part is in Swahili translates to Malaria is dangerous.

Sauti Sol's Sura Yako hit song gets a Kisii Remix

It certainly is a song that has taken Kenyans by storm. Sura Yako, sang by Sauti Sol who recently bagged The 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards Best African Act  has managed to colonize the charts, hearts and minds of Kenyans and firmly established itself as the event song of 2014 especially at weddings.

A few months ago, artist Agwatta- who is known for remixing various songs, including Ashawo, originally done by Nigerian heart-throb, Flavor- remixed SuraYako to a Kisii version titled 'Nyaboke' and released and audio version produced by Teddy B.

The self proclaimed king of remixes in East and Central Africa has captivated Kenyans especially those of the native Kisii community since the song is done entirely in the Kisii dialect. The video to  "Nyaboke" has garnered over 1000 views on YouTube in just under three days.

Kenya has 42 tribes hence 43 distinct dialects, meaning remixing a Swahili/English song into any of them would  raise an artist's profile as it has Agwatta who was not known prior to his remixes. The musician is currently a post in every Kenyan blog after 'Nyaboke'.

Below are some screen grabs from the song that is doing quite well on YouTube,by Kenyan standards. This also comes after Sauti Sol's own remix to the song with Nigerian singer Iyanya.

ASATIRA, the goddess of peace Kenya's 1st Sci-Fi Film in the running for the Sony Production Awards

Kenyan sci-fi sounds far fetched but wait till you watch this trailer and you will know Kenyan production is headed to greater heights.

Here is the backstory of the 1st Kenyan Sci-fi film;

#Asatira, the goddess of peace "ASATIRA (The goddess of Peace) is a story of a heroine called Asatira who at the age of seven survives the jaws of death during the 1992 Kenya’s post-election clashes in the Rift Valley where she witnessed the death of her family in the hands of bandits hired to kill her family. They are given poison and Asatira survives only to mutate and gets super human abilities. As she grows up she realizes her abilities and through this she uses the powers to get to find her family’s killers and help protect the oppressed that undergo the same events she went through. The story gets better when she comes and learns that the killings occur after every election and the people behind the killings are top government officials running a secret cult used to gain power by oppressing the normal Kenyan citizen. Asatira’s quest begins during the 2007 post-election violence after Kenya’s President Mwai Kibaki is sworn in and Kenya goes into a blood bath of war between ethnic communities. With her powers, flying around Kenya, she comes across many hurdles and fights her way through to the top with the help of her joined forces of other super heroes with the same goal. Her main quest is to make sure that Kenya does not elect a bad leader and does not go through the same ordeal during the 2013 elections. Asatira in the end becomes the leader that Kenya needed." When Love is in the Air - Kanana

Hey, who new valentine would come in October? Well, apparently, miracles still happen. As I type this, only three words are stuck on my mind, "NI MAPENZI TU". Indeed, love is the greatest, now I believe. And boy did it take me a while to do so. Honestly, I never knew I'll live to listen to such an infectious jam that is proudly Kenyan. A lady name Kanana just made it a reality. From the instrumentation, arrangement, melody, chords, lyrics, just name it, everything is on point.

Kanana may be a newcomer but she has definitely set standards and put herself in a class above her peers. I mean even veteran female artists who have been here for a while have never come up with such a composition. Everybody can sing about love, but it's how you sing it that can make one long to fall in love. Kanana just made us do that, want to fall in love. She sings so passionately that you can't help but love, her plus the song. From the Kaka empire, we are blessed with one of the best things to happen to our music industry for a long time to come. All we can say now is; Ni Mapenzi Tu Kanana :-)

Choreography at Its Best

Kenya has come a long way when it comes to dance and dance styles and it is only in the recent 2 years that street dance has become a major movement in the streets and on mainstream media with shows like Sakata Dance Battle, Orange Beat Ya Street (OBYS) which have brought to the limelight Kenyan dance crews.

lifestyle.ke.msn.com

Granted the huge strides the Kenyan dance industry has taken, it is yet to compete with the ever dynamic and creative international dance scene as we are yet to get a Kenyan Dance crew compete on this level. We have had some successfully compete ad win in regional and Pan African contents like Wapi Wapi crew winners of 2011 Malta Guinness Street Dance Championships who have also won OBYS 2013 edition.

We are almost there  in terms of taking Kenyan Dance to new levels and it is high time we set off a dance frenzy and come up with a unique style that will be the rage on online videos and viral videos.

Our dance crews also have to step up and shape up more to be the best not only on the continent but also world wide. We have a video from Japan that sets out a clear warning to Kenyan dance crews that they better be on their toes or else... and we slot in one that brilliantly showcases the rise of Kenyan Street Dance to meet global standards

Why Men Stare at BOOBS

We (men) love to stare at them, touch them ...I wont go into any more ratchet details but the fact of the matter is that men love BOOBS. The only problem is that they are women's (granted a few men have them) and women don't share unless they care about you.

Men have been on the receiving end of many a mouthful when caught in the act...ogling I mean and women don't make it easy not to stare due to some of their fashion forward clothes that  leave very little to the imagination.

It is even worse for a man who is physically reprimanded with a slap or a fist by the more feisty females.

We have the best reason you can give when asked why you were staring and it is a sure proof explanation that may even land you a date ;). Watch it below

Best Game of Thrones Impersonations

One of the most widely watched series in the world has to be Game of Thrones.

It is a thrilling and entertaining program that has managed to capture audience all over the world.

The most unfortunate thing is that it comes once a year and takes close to a year so that a new season is released.

That being said the culture of Game of Thrones has grown widely with Cosplay, Parodies and even re-enactment of popular scenes.
Below is a great idea of how the Game of Thrones culture has been a great influence with a great impression by Steve Love.

#KoT WEEKLY

Your purveyor of tweetastic Kenyan news

#KoT: The 43^rd Kenyan Tribe

You have to give credit where it is due and judging from the famous hash tag #KoT (Kenyans on twitter) the talk here reeks of world class humor that you only get when you have a congregation of creative minds. I often wonder why we don’t have any outstanding sitcoms in Kenya yet the content provided on twitter is befitting. From chicken sagas to marriage bill debates the Kenyan discussions on twitter are varied as they are lively. We are going to start by a brief history and intro to the twitterverse of Kenya’s so as to get to the gist of our weekly review of KoT’s.

Kenya tweetstory: brief history of Kenya on twitter

With such creative and witty wordsmiths you only need to visit twitter to get your daily fix of humor and keep yourself updated on what’s going on in the Kenyan social scene. There is immense passion that is shown on social issues equaled by great venom dished out in response to topics/people/countries that KoT’s, as they are collectively called, feel aggrieved by.

Kenya has had 1 war since independence, the recent incursion into Somalia by Kenya Defence Forces, but twitter has seen several wars erupt against aggressors most notably the Kenya VS Nigeria tweef (fights/wars on twitter). Fought for weeks, the tweef that used hash tags #someonetellnigeria #someonetellKenya generated a lot of buzz and rib cracking jokes at members of the two countries that in the end brought people together rather than divided showing the immense power of social media. Even twitter recognized KoT’s power and has special hashtags dedicated to them, namely

Trolling: those ugly tweets

There is never good without the existence of evil (let’s call it bad for the conservative readers) .Due to the anonymity of social media you can’t help but have your fair share of saboteurs, haters and trouble makers collectively known as trolls. These are the people who will provoke others by using negative language, crude jokes and all forms of bullying. Yeah, twitter is more like the real world hence not a good place for escapists. Funny enough, many twitter users may have trolled (the act of writing provoking messages on social media) at one time or the other.

Enough of the back-story, we delve into the hot topics over the past week

Ø  Starting us of is the controversial #MarriageBill debate that spun of other tags like #marriagebillya mahustler

Ø  The Nyeri chicken saga had so many variants that just searching for the words kuku and nyerimen provided a list of comedy fodder that left you in stitches. FYI this one trended worldwide, quite an accomplishment.

Ø  Showing that we are still colonized the royal baby had its say with Kate Middleton strongly on the Kenyan trend list

Ø  It’s always there due to corporates who discovered the power of twitter as a customer service tool; #kindlyDM is a daily if not weekly guest on the Kenyan trend list.

Final Word

Definitely the best way to spend time online; keep it KoT and you will have fun socializing with crazy Kenyan tweeps (users of twitter) as well as like minded internationals. We will have more KoT news for you at the end of the week.

Man Of Steel

Man of Steel

The next instalment from DC Comics, Man of Steel is set for release in 2013 starring Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent and Ammy Adams as Lois Lane.
The new Superman movie directed by 300 and Watchmen director Zack Snyder has a tough task in presenting an entertaining account of one of the worlds most acclaimed heroes.
As far as super hero movies go, Superman movies have been performing under par when compared to the likes of Batman, Dark Knight,Spiderman and Iron Man.

Lets hope the DC Comics have gotten the formula right this time round. The wait is long till the release but we will come to see if it was worth it.
