Sura Yako RMX (Sauti Sol ft Iyanya)

This Kenyan band has come a long way even bagging the 2014 MTV EMA Best African Act Award and they are nominated in a host of other Pan-African awards.
www.npr.org

This year Sauti Sol released ''Nishike''( Swahili for touch me) & they were heavily condemned by pretentious Kenyans for straying off their 'family friendly' songs and videos.

They sort of heeded their fans cry and came out with ''Sura Yako" (Swahili for your face) which really sounds bland when translated but is a really catchy song.

They first released a dance instruction video for the Lipala dance and the ''Sura Yako" dance craze went viral in all the weddings and party joints.

It is touted as being a better video for the song than the official video, we think mainly due to the energy exuded in the dancing, you be the judge.

They followed this up with a swanky video by the one and only Kenyan cinematographer extraordinaire Enos Olik.
The official video hasn't caught up as much as expected but still has favorable reviews and views.

However, the remix, featuring Nigeria's Kukere master Iyanya, fails to meet expectations to say the very least and will be a hard sell with the instructional dance video being a better video despite its very low budget nature compared to the other two.

Some critics have described it as having a sort of choir element between the Iyanya-Sauti Sol verses.

You can have a look at it below

In all fairness to Sauti Sol we love them and the song. However, the 2 main videos, for the original and the remix, should have had more...we were expecting something bigger and quite frankly glamorous.

If you think am being too harsh, watch Sura Yako. In my opinion, this is how the video should have looked like.

Changing Perceptions about Africa;The Motherland

We all know or have seen/heard the common stereotypes of the ''third world'' Africa where ''nothing good or positive" comes from.
Well this video challenges the ''Save Africa" stereotypes which often portray a backward and desolate continent full of disease, hunger and war.
It is super hilarious but drives the point home, Africa does not need saving in the manner portrayed by most NGO's.

A Tribute to all Barclays Premiere League Fans WorldWide

Football is the most popular sport in the world and it is such a unifying sport that it transcends cultures, nationalities and breaks all berries geographical, language and even economic.

The Barclays Premier League which showcases English Premier league football is by far the most popular in the world with most of the teams in the league commanding millions of faithful fans across the globe.

It is in recognition of these fans outside of England and the UK that this video was made. To add to it Kenya is among the countries representing the African continent in the video and it is Arsenal fans featured.

The only problem is the  ridiculous stereotype where the African wakes up at the crack of dawn and travels many kilometres via bus to go watch the match in an overcrowded pub!And they arrive there at night! Damn European Stereotypes bet they don't think we can afford let alone have cable and satellite TV.

Checkout the video below starring our very own  Olwenya Maina of the Nairobi Half Life fame.

Moment for Life - Mishu (Remix)

Photo
It's a tricky thing to remix a popular song, especially if it's done by one of the biggest names in the industry. Takes confidence and trust in yourself to even think about it. Well, this teenie who goes by the name Mi$hu, 1/3 of Dr3am Ville, decided to remix(cover) Nicki Minaj's run way hit Moment for Life. The track was actually produced by another teenager, Alex Red of Disturbing Africa. While the home video was short and edited by KC, a fellow rapper and a brother to Mishu. Safe to say Kenyan youth are getting serious with music at a young age, which is good for growth in our continent.
Listen and be the judge.

A Billion Reasons To Believe in Africa

The picture that has been painted of Africa on the global scene is that of a desolate land with starving people, wars, anarchy and all things wrong. This is however not the case in the Coca Cola ad that is set to capture the hearts of all Africans worldwide as it sets to show how Africa is the best place to be on earth with the current global problems being encountered in other continents.

This is sure set to be an epic advert for 2012 that is bound to raise eyebrows as well as increase Coca cola's fan base on the African continent which happens to be one of their largest markets.

Tunisia Government Dismissed as Fierce Clashes Continue

According to the Tunisia's state news agency, President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali decided to dismiss his government following massive riots that were rampaging the country. Tunisian police fired rounds of tear gas at thousands of protesters in the capital who were marching through Tunis to demand the resignation of the country's autocratic leader. Many were shouting 'Ben Ali, out!' and 'Ben Ali, assassin!'

This events are being hailed as the "First Wikileaks Revolution" as the cables, published in December, revealed that the president's wife - Leila Ben Ali - had made huge profits out of the building of an elite exclusive school. The cables exposed the massive corruption undertaken by the country's elite. Another cable detailed how much the first family was loathed was blocked, but it goes without saying the PEOPLE of TUNISIA had made up their minds, within weeks, word of mouth had forced protesters onto the streets
culminating in a revolution that took place yesterday.

The riots made president Zine al Abidine Ben Ali to flee from the country yesterday after more than 23 years of ruling with a ruthless grip on power. The news swept the Arab world with a  kind of excitement that inspires the need for change.

In the cable,US ambassador Robert Godec wrote: "Corruption in the inner circle is growing. Even average Tunisians are now keenly aware of it, and the chorus of complaints is rising"
''Tunisians intensely dislike, even hate, first lady Leila Trabelsi and her family. In private, regime opponents mock her.''The cable has since been banned.
