Golden Globes 2017

The 74th edition of the Golden Globes went down over the weekend and as expected, it was nothing short of pomp and glamour. The award brought together actors and filmmakers and awarded those who had nailed their roles. Jimmy Fallon’s made a stellar performance to open the show.

La La Land was the winner of the night with more than 5 Globes for Best Motion Pictures, best performance by an actress in a motion pictures in the category of Musical/comedy, best performance by an actor in a motion pictures in the category of Musical/comedy, best director, best screenplay among others.

Other visible winner were Hugh Laurie and TomHiddleston for their roles in The Night Manager and Zootopia for best animation.

What’s an award night without drama? Tom Hiddleston won a Globe for Best Actor in a Mini-Series
or TV Motion Picture. Yeiy! And then he went ahead and gave a boring, self-exalting speech –brrrrrr- which the 6’2” tall hunk later apologized for on a Facebook post. He accused his nerves for getting in the way of him truly expressing what he wanted to- which was to thank The UNICEF and the doctors of Medicins Sans Frontiere for their tireless sacrifice working in South Sudan. What was he thinking?

MerylStreep who was the winner of the Cecil B. DE Mille Award gave a powerful speech that was directed at the American President without actually mentioning his name. She urged the actors to both defend Hollywood against charges of elitism and remain resilient and proactive even in the face of intolerance.

"Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners," Streep said after describing the diverse backgrounds of some of her acting contemporaries. "Where are their birth certificates?" she asked pointedly, a possible reference to Trump's so-called "birther" campaign against President Obama.

The controversial president-elect wrote a reply through his Twitter.

This just keeps getting better! Congratulations to the winners.
